Cabin heat from exhaust. Common?

Hi all

My Alfa specialist says that cabin heat from exhaust a common thing with 916.

Feel the heat emanating from the hand break area! Anyone else get this? Will be nice in the winter months!

Cheers

The catalytic converter is right underneath the center console... as on every car... it generates a lot of heat. There are heat shields fitted on the converter itself and on the botom of the car... just like on every car of today...

Never mentioned heat from there, also on a 1000km trip at constant 140km/h with my TB.

Sunshine is something different: the glas has twice the area as the roof!  :D

As Carlo mentions the catalytic converter gets hot but the heat shields shall protect against that the heat migrates up into the cabin, if the heat shields are missing it will get warm in the cabin.

Also, too much unburnt fuel that is burning up in the catalytic converter can give the same phenomenon, failure of ignition, temperature sensor, etc. may be the reason for this and it will hurt catalytic converter in the long run.

I have had this experience with my 156 TS and my 116 GTV6. It happens when the engine gets hot and the coolant takes the heat. There is always some airflow through the engine bay and I guess it can begin to gently blow through the vents too.

Funny enough that I did 150 miles today and it wasn't too bad! Looking forward to the cooler weather as I can save £££s by driving around all night with my family to save money on the heating bills!!

Oh and you are correct about the air vents. Get that as well. Glad I am not alone!
