New Giulia

45 posts in this topic

I was talking with one massive BMW fan yesterday about the new Giulia. You shoud've seen how he was defending BMW  :D "....the m4 has so called extreme mode which they weren't using when they tested the m4 round Nordschleife; it's faster than that Giulia; Alfa Romeo cheated.. " and so on  :D

Bragging rights for my boy at school. His mates dads all drive German. Wheel up with an Alfa. With pride!

Hi all. My JTS likes a drink of oil. Use Selenia 10w 60 but wondering if anyone gets better longevity between top ups with another oil?

All Alfa Romeo engines are supposed to use a bit of oil. That's normal. How much oil is yours consuming? My TS uses a litre a year (6000ish miles) and I'm running 5w40 :)

Gosh. Wish it was the same! Just put 2 litres in today. I check it every 2 to 3 weeks and usually looking at half a litre minimal every check.

I have a winter check with my Alfa specialist in two weeks and will sort it out.

I know I had a leak in my sump but that was repaired.

No sign of oil on my driveway so assuming the sump was sorted.

I do DRIVE it if you know what I mean. Hi revs etc. Do 300 miles a week easily so always thought it's the combination of the two.

Would welcome any advice if this may make a difference!

Saw a rare sight this weekend. Another GTV on the road and a friendly wave! Not to mention a mint Cup at the Alfa garage when I picked up my Selinia.

Up to 1 liter per 1000 km is within specifications for 2.0 TS engines. There was a lot of talk about it on other Alfa forums and there are several variables that influence it. The type of oil can make a difference, but not much, maybe 0.2 - 0.3 l less at 1000 km.

1 L per 1000 kms is maybe within specs but that's really a lot. Means you're adding 10 liters of oil between successive oil changes (every 10,000 kms). I've never seen this on any car, and I had mostly old and dodgy cars

Personally, I'm lucky enough that I don't need to top up between oil changes (so far, fingers crossed...)

In terms of oil consumption on the JTS so have I it to me that there was a problem with the oil scraper rings that was too soft and that the  problem to some extent was corrected with the recomendation to use 10W-60 oil, but it was not quite good so in 2004 they upgraded the JTS engine with another type of piston rings.

Yes. Mine is a 2004.

Using 10w 60. Selenia. Will monitor and ask my garage. Cheers all!

Yes, that was the problem on TS - scraper rings, I remember the story now. About 1l per 1000 km is something I had on my 18 years old 1.5 boxer engine with 180.000 km.

:hello: I bet the boxer engine still sounded as good as it always does even when it drank a bit more oil. :)

My fault. Couldn't figure out how to do a new thread and started all this oil talk!

One impressive Alfa.

Is that the new Dacia Sandero?  :D  :D

On more serious note.. Are there any news about other versions of the Giulia?

Petrol engines do sound promising :) The 99kw diesel, I reckon will be too underpowered and slow as heck
