GTV CUP NO 131 (Rhd UK spec)

43 posts in this topic

Hello fellow 916 owners.

This is my newly acquired Gtv cup, 2002 car. The series no is 131 out of 155 UK models. It has only covered 62K miles and has full service history. The last owner was a non enthusiast so alot of parts need replacing because they have been on the car from new and will be tired. I want to rebuild all the suspension as most of us owners do. Plus it needs a full repaint. Lots of work to be done !!

a few pictures so you can get acquainted.........

I love it. Good thing you bought it. I am sure you will give it, some much needed TLC.

Great to see that It has found a good home... I might just be on the verge of buying a second Cup. It is in a sorry state but needs to be rescued.

Damn, this is addictive!

Sorry for the slow response... but yes, it was. It's not a bad car at all. The damage is minimal, it wants a front panel and spoiler, a new offside headlamp, indicator unit/fog lamp and various bits of trim at the front plus a new grille and badge. But, and here's the but.. it really needs painting. It has  a good lacquer coat but the paint has faded in many areas and the bonnet is from another car and simply doesn't match at all.

The wheels are not so bad and it has good recent tyres all round. Matching Goodyears no less.

It has had a new engine quite recently. The alloy and ancillaries are very clean and tidy. But ( this is the second big but) the engine management light is on and I don't know why. It might be something and nothing - or it could cost a lot of money to put right. The interior needs serious cleaning but is quite tidy.

It is a Cat C write off ( or it will be). Given its value when sorted, there is quite a lot of risk in the project, even though I have all the panels and trim to fix it.

So, I'm thinking about it.... but it is way too good to let it die. It needs saving!

First of many mods to the engine bay today. The flexible rubber intake hose are no longer available so I phoned the Northerner (Dan) at Autolusso for 1 of their replacements. I also ordered a replacement set of cf3 cam covers and intake plenum and other engine bay parts to clean up the engine bay when the Gta flywheel is fitted with a new gta clutch (engine out job) while the engine is out I will also fit another radiator I have knocking about (silly not too)

As you can see from the pictures the wheels on the car are not bad but not great ! So I've had a spare set refurbished along with the zender wheels from the failed green spider project, I think they came up nicely ! Plus a diamond cut finnish on a set of 17 inch Siennas.

work will continue around spring time.

Happy holidays all.

A Cup on Sienna's is so smoking hot, it is rated 18+ only.

More parts have arrived. The oil cooler is a 19 row rad from mocal.

I'm not overly excited with the exit of the exhaust so I might change the set-up slightly removing the last box and with a straight end section, also change the tip with a duel exit 1 side, something like this........

.....00../.............\........

Full suspension replacement has been ordered and should arrive within the next couple of days.

Why you have order replacement valve cover and plenum?

What will be suspension upgrade?

Good luck with restoring and upgrading

Nice upgrades !!!

And good idea for the exhaust, a straight end is the best on GTVs !! :D

This being my first V6 GTV I'm not familiar with exhaust setups. The cup has a CF3 engine and has 4 cats on the manifolds. I plan to keep 2 boxes with the rear setup I have just bought and will see if the sound is right for me. If not I'll get on the phone to the wizard and ask for 1 of his Ferrari 355 sounding cat back systems

I can try a couple of different colours with the cam covers. I'm thinking crinkle black at the moment. If it works I'll keep the original to change back if I wish.

With the suspension, I've ordered new OE springs with Koni STR "street" shocks. These are from the first of the new batch coming into the UK. The str strut is an oe equivalent made by Koni ( non adjustable)

Thats exactly what I was thinking  What paint did you use or did you pay someone to do the work for you?

Also what strut brace is that?

Weichers, by the looks of it. Black crinkle paint on the covers is great!

Sent while procrastinating at work.

I love the black paint with the red lettering.

Red and black is also very tasty!

I couldn't agree more. This is the current colour scheme with my Spider atm.

Waiting for the impression with Koni STR.T dampers ;) . I think that STR.T is not a new model by Koni. The prices are around half of Koni Sport. Quoted from Koni website:

"KONI STR.T is best described as semi-sporty: improving the road handling to a considerably sportier level than standard (also suitable for lowering), with an overall comfortable feel."

I was looking for an OE equivalent shock, semi-sporty in acceptable B)

Some good news and bad today !!

Bad new first. The exhaust doesn't fit fully  the cat back part does but the last section doesn't line up with the final hanger, So now I have no choice but to have another end section made up.

Now for the good news, lots of parts have arrived :happy0045: I'm running out of space at my lock up so will need to start making an effort to fit some of these goodies.
