That's a good little to-do list for the winter I'm also looking for semi slicks, but finding a set of cheap ET30ish 5x98 wheels is proving to be even harder
-
Maybe. It might be a movement sensor that sets off the alarm if the body shifts position. It's bolted to a horse shoe shaped bracket so I assume it is intended to sense movement of some kind... And the panel's got a tiny key hole toward the engine. Odd stuff. I am planning on fitting steel braided brake hoses so that's an option, thanks! If my soaking everything in chemicals does not help, I guess this will be my last resort...
-
A question: what is green box thingy with a black plastic mounting bracket that is hanging underneath the right hand engine bay cover, covering the PS fluid reservoir?
-
Tonight's session in the man cave was shitty. Can't loosen the nut where the brake hoses connect to the brake lines. The more I try, the worse it gets.. As usual. Soaked them for like the 100th time in brake cleaner and anti seize stuff before I left... I don't have the proper tools to build new brake lines so I dooooont wanna end up cutting them...

He does!

When Squadra was down, I was busy with some small stuff The power window liked to go down, but refused to go up. Problematic... It turned out that the switch was worn out. A pin inside it had collapsed. Seemed hard to repair. I "hotwired" it (sounds cool, right? ) and the window returned up nicely. Looking for a new switch unit. I even circled it I also did this... with the old, dirty and faded Ph1 grille: Some WD40, bumper shine and a new badge and it will be as good as new! I hope...

Scary........ Careful what you wish for.... On a totally different note, I cant but notice that Biltema (for non-Scandinavians: BIltema is a chain of home supply stores that used to focus mainly on parts and acessories for cars and motorbikes, but nowadays they sell anything from bath towels to cooking utensils and garden furniture) is a bit like IKEA; everyone is bound to end up going there, sooner or later. And you always end up buying some random stuff you didn't plan on buying... Friday Fun tomorrow will be removing the calipers Sadly it takes a little too much time to go to the garage after work on weekdays. At least if I wanna get back in time to get a couple of hours of sleep...

That's awesome! Too bad I'm aiming to remove most of the interior, not make it nicer... I hope this will catch on so that you get lots of customers

It seems that, in the UK, the 916 is valued lower than the rest of Europe, not to mention Australia and other "remote" places. 6000€ is probably reasonable for central Europe. Sorry about your car.

.... you really wanna see me swing my wand?!

Hell yea, we're an international forum so bring it on You are right. I want to go ahead slowly and improve the car bit by bit, and it makes no sense to spend twice the value of the car on upgrades when I don't know for sure that the engine and drivetrain will take hours of punishment on the track. And my holiday piggy bank would have died already Brakes, basic service and mechanical maintenance, a little bit of electronics, like making sure the temp gauge works and fitting an oil temp gauge, and weight reduction. That's my recipe for now.

Yea, will take them apart and clean and lube them properly. A noob question that has been bothering me (not just for you, but everyone who happen to read this ) Can I leave the car with disconnected brake hoses so that old fluid drips out (brake fluid reservoir cap taken off) for some time? I mean like a week or two? I have read stuff about getting air in the ABS unit (if it's not already f****d ) that you can't get rid of. Can I leave it like that while I work on the calipers? I don't know what shape they are in, except they work well enough to pass the brake test at MOT with flying colors... I mean that it might take a week or three before I can put them back together. First lesson... Watch this: THEN.... It's a total turn off. Put the handbrake on when undoing the rear wheel bolts and have someone push the brake pedal when undoing the front wheel bolts... Not that I did. I loosened them before I jacked up the car. Thanks for being a smart ass

Are we talking about the huge ass crank seal behind the flywheel?

Cool. It's by far the nicest front spoiler. My plan was to fit a V6 front bumper and try to find a V6 Aero lip, but your Spider looks so good like that that you have almost changed my mind for me...

Looks great! Are the intakes real so that you could fit hoses between them and the front brakes? Sent from my Tablet726H using Tapatalk

Generally, the suspension on my GTV looks like it's in decent shape. Today was the first time I had the opportunity to take a detailed look underneath (just a quick look in a parking lot before I bought it) and I was pleased that everything looks as good as it does. One can tell that it has received anti corrosion treatment at an earlier stage in life, tho theres annoying surface rust on the arms, control rods and so on. The To Do list until Christmas is: - Figure out what the deal is with the ABS and fix it if possible (chances are improved if we dont get a shitload of snow before then...) - Find two minor leaks, motor oil and hydraulic fluid (clutch?) - Take the front calipers apart and clean them up because one disc is much more worn than the other, so I guess they dont apply even pressure when braking. Anyone who might know other causes?? - Fit Yellowstuff front pads and steel braided hoses - Fit the subframe brace Sent from my Tablet726H using Tapatalk

In what way are Turkish customs a problem?

Garage - Check! Moved my stuff! Wheels off? - Check! Jack stands? - Check! ABS equipment still where the factory put it? - Check! Odd suspension related things unvealed...... No!
-
Who cares about Bohuslän? All of Norway was ours, remember? You should wear a lusekofta for the meet at Mantorp Park in summer tho... hehe! Good input on the coilovers. Thanks!
-
Naaw, excuse me for a minute. I'm gonna step away and cry big happy Alfa Romeo tears because of this conversation.

Typical Swedish thing to do when you buy a used car... Looks protected enough. Next thing: Looks legit... it's the early Bosch 2Si version so all good so far. Next weekend when I can finally jack the car up and take the wheels off, I'll take a closer look at the sensors, fuses and so on
-
I've looked at Hotbits, spent some time on their website. The DT2 kit appears to be the one that Alfastumper sold as Zeatek coilovers. Their price is 5600 RM, which is €1300, which is more or less what I payed for the entire car... So this is where FK coilovers get interesting! Oh! Never thought about this at all. The green LCD matches the original panel backlight as well. Looks like I'd land at £80 for an oil temp LCD excl shipping. Worth considering VDOs are more expensive than Stack and Autometer, as far as I can see. The senders are seldom included in the prices quoted for VDO gauges.
-
If you hadn't bought them and were in the market for a set of coilovers today, what would you buy instead? Ok, so you just need some time off and a good reason to go north. Like an Italian car meet

I have this odd feeling that I'll have questions for you once I get started taking the dash apart. You are Squadra's Dash Man after all

Biltema, candy shop? Naah please. Though I like their coffee-and-cinnamon-bun offer for 5 SEK. Such a good sales trick. No one can resist... Their products vary a lot in quality but most hand tools and electric tools are good, at least if you don't use them very hard every day. Skokloster Slott is not too far north of Stockholm. http://goo.gl/maps/Zq1A6 Still quite a drive for you. Don't we know what they are made of? The norrbaggar are made of ancient dead plants and animals in liquid form... And lusekoftor. Wrong end of the country? I always thought KBH stood for Kobenhavn? Quite a drive for you too, but you have six whole months to find a reason to go to Stockholm that weekend and then "accidentally" end up at Skokloster Not sure I agree. I'm planning on trying to replace the analog clock with a good quality oil temp gauge from Stack, Autometer etc. Rumor has it that the three factory gauges are fixed as a unit, but I will see for myself.
