Did you know internal diameter of pipe 1 on intercooler side (lower part) on bellow picture? I want to use it in my setup and hope to not be too small.
-
Most likely my bolts will be custom order from one Bulgarian company for which I read that they made locking wobble bolts. My bolts maybe also will have to be long ones. So probably something can be made for your case ;). I was thinking where to post my last purchase, because initial plan is it to not be for neither of them, but as it is related to some recent update for 155 will post it here. I "accidentally" bought these. These are Brembo 18Z 6 piston monoblock brake calipers. I was mentioned this model in my post for 17Z calipers, which will be installed on 155 (a little above in this topic). As can be seen from the name - these are designed for 18" wheels and 17Z for 17". Both models are very similar in design and size, but this is lets say "bigger brother" of 17Z. This model was used on earlier Audi Q7, VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne (for example earlier Cayenne Turbo use such calipers) with 350x34mm discs. Total piston area of this model is smaller than 17Z, so concerning brake master cylinder, they are better suited for upgrade - 30/34/38 (for 18Z) vs 34/36/38 (for 17Z). Also pads on this model are a little bigger than on 17Z model, more specifically they are higher (on close picture of pads, cigarette lighter is just for comparison and it is aligned with other end of the pad). But fortunately pads are interchangeable and 17Z pads can be used on 18Z calipers (for upgrade with smaller discs) and some make it like that (in VAG community). Unfortunately 17Z model is in my hometown and not here around me and because of that I can not directly compare them visually for now, but such comparison will be made :). From a lot of searching I have found just one place, where these calipers was compared side by side. My plan is both models to be stripped and painted. And for this model maybe to be made adapters for 330x32mm (something that should fit in 17") discs on my GTV and/or 155. Then maybe will sell them, will see :). I know that in alfa community by far the most popular calipers for upgrade are these from 166,Kappa - relatively cheap and not so hard to find. But I prefer the other approach - non standard one and with maximum impact :D. And at the end of this post one not so good and bright picture of this caliper inside Ultraleggera 17" just for visual test
-
I think that such topic will be a very good idea . And for start, something funny.
-
They have marks here and there, so are not like new ;). These are my personal favorite for wheels, because of design and weight and want another set for the GTV :). Yes, lower unsprung weight have many advantages, but in my case the unsprung weight will increase from current point - much bigger brake setup and bigger tyres (from 215/40-R16 to 215/40-R17). For example brake disc weight will increase with 4.2kg for each disc. But this doesn't change my mind, I seek for overall look and package :). I also bought wheels spigot rings for perfect fit. I have to find locking wobble wheel bolt to secure a little bit these wheels.
-
And another purchase, that I'm very happy with it . Italian car deserve Italian wheels to be complete Italian design . OZ Ultraleggera 17" 7J 4x100 ET37 Yes used, not new as wealthy Scandinavians here .

Welcome to the forum and from me Mike ! Engine swap from 164 TB in GTV hm, I don't remember to have heard/read about such. Is your "new" engine equipped standard with that Mitsubishi turbo, if yes it is from older 164s right. Very very low miles, are you sure about that . Fuel pressure regulator look as original one to me. Are the fuel injectors changed, because standard ones are not very big in capacity (I guess that 164 TB with Mitsubishi or Garrett turbo injectors are the same as GTV TB - 189cc/min or 18lbs/hr). At what boost pressure the car is running, did you know?
-
Yes, I note P8 in brackets, but this is different ECU. Found some mixed comments for this software and 155 Q4 and as far as I remember not one that fully approve it working. As I have mentioned in one of my previous post, here is more interesting purchase that I made These are Brembo 17Z monoblock calipers used on Touareg and Cayenne V6 (these exact are from Touareg I think, because Porsche paint calipers in some bright color and put Porsche on them of course ). Bottle is 1.5l and is just for comparison on pictures . This is the exact model, that I wanted first for the GTV ( but found Lancer Evo 9 calipers in very good condition and good price then) and looked for them from some time for this car . They are originally used with 330x32mm discs and for 17" wheels (and hence 17Z in the model name) and that was the main reason that I wanted this model - it is biggest caliper originally used with 17" that I know. They are rarer than 18Z model, which is originally used with 350x34mm discs and 18" and bigger wheels. But size wise they are very similar. Pads for 17Z calipers are a little "lower", but pads are interchangeable between models and have seen upgrades with 18Z calipers to use 17Z pads, because of better swept area for specific setup. Pistons on 17Z calipers are bigger than 18Z and from that some say that they are stronger, but no maybe not so good for upgrade on car with small original brakes/calipers. P.S. I have one folder with pictures of brake upgrades with 17Z calipers, but no alfas among them, so maybe will not be appropriate .

As I write in my presentation in the forum - i will make thread about my car and here it is. In the beginning (about 3 and a half years ago) The car was resprayed (I don't know how long before I buy it), wheels was Stilauto Ghibli 17" (painted) with 215/45/17 tyres, spacers on the rear 20mm on each side, central console was painted with same paint like wheels, the interior was reupholstered with black perforated leather (good job), Alfa Romeo spoiler on the rear window. In the beginning i fix some problems and update some parts, but nothing special: -uniball rose joints on the rear suspension -denso iridium power spark plugs and then: 4 pot front brembo brake calipers from Lancer Evo 9 conversion included: custom made bracket from duraluminium, 330mm discs, braided brake hoses,Motul RBF600 brake fluid, aluminium spacers 10mm on each side and TRW brake pads (i want Performance friction pads but after problem with order from UK my service installed these (at their discretion) and I was with a fait accompli !? if you understand me) after that from Autolusso: The center console was wrapped with 3M carbon fiber look folio, this was done twice, by two different peoples ... but unfortunately the folio come off at the bends where there is "stress" on it and with "support" of hot temperature in the GTV cockpit and after a while the result wasn't what i wanted. I think for some variant for this "issue" , like adding some not so strong glue at the trouble spots (because some day i will remove it). If you think to make something to your center console i will suggest to make good respray and don't bother with folio! I think that is enough for the first post. to be continued ...

These two cars use same engine, but engine management on 166 is more modern. 166 TB have MAF instead of AFM in GTV TB and ignition is with coil pack (one smaller coil for 2 cylinders fired at same time - wasted spark concept) instead of distributor. Don't know for injection. The ECUs are of course different - Motronic ML4.1 in GTV TB and Motronic ME2.1 in 166 TB. So does anyone here have driven both and how they compare? How they feel? I see that Squadra Tuning don't offer chip tuning for 166 TB and also many companies in Bulgaria, so should have something special with his ECU .

The ECU of the car is IAW 4W6 (of group of P8 ECUs as Fiat Coupe 16VT,Delta Integrale 16V, Escort Cosworth). I know this software and here is a link to their site -> IAW Scan2. As can be seen this specific ECU is not listed as supported on their site, but have read that some guys try with selecting other ECUs and see some things, some of them look correct, some no . The ECU which they select in the program is IAW-6F/16F SPI . One guy comment that the data is not interpreted right and he suggest to be try with: -IAW-8F MPI (pre PHASE-2) - there is 3 phases of Q4 models, the last one (mine is such) is with engine immobilizer -IAW-04K.P8 MPI So in short this software can be tried, but it is not something that can fully trust in my opinion.
-
No success with attempts to connect to this car's ECU also . The software is showed to be proven with this exact ECU, but not for my car ... at least for now. Look like I don't have luck with ECU diagnostic of my cars (try the GTV with 3 programs). Some good work have been done these days. Balance shafts belt was deleted and shaft was locked , belts and pulleys was changed, transmission oil Motul 300 Gear (4 liters ), spark plugs Denso W22EPB (I go for one index colder plugs than originally specified, because I plan to use Squadra chip, which will give more boost), Beru ignition leads, 2x Magneti Marelli ignition coils and making 2 threads for bolts . There result of all this work was, that the engine runs much quiet and also better . The main reason for that is from removing balance shaft belt and replacing belts and pulley, one of the pulleys was original one. Previously the engine whines loudly, now it is very quiet and the main noise come from exhaust . My mechanic sad that he is surprised how quiet the engine become, he have expected improvement, but not to this level . Soon will post some much much more interesting purchase for this car .

The radiator was fitted and no problem with it after more than 2000km. It was a little bit higher than original (I guess) Valeo which was on the car according to mechanic. As I mentioned in my previous post, when I make an order for Nissens radiator (which was calceled) I add something else in "the basket" - LuK clutch kit for phase 1 GTV TB (up to 04/98). This kit have clutch disc with diameter of 228mm and Phase 2 GTV TB have bigger disc with diameter of 335mm. Here is a link for this kit in LuK online catalog -> link. As you can see from the link, this is out of production (unlike kit for Phase 2 TB). Pressure plate and disc are LuK, but releaser is INA. I was thinking that there will be something from Valeo in the box (as I have read about such stories). Clutch disc is with 6 springs as you can see and not with 8 as on some other Phase 1 TB clutches, for which I have read on here . But I did check and part numbers on disc and pressure plate match these on LuK catalog, so think that everything is OK. My car will be tuned and still think that will be better with Stage 1 clutch kit, but because of very limited availability for Phase 1 TB (have seen just one) and good price of this kit decided that will get it and think that should be fine with my plan for moderate power increase.

I have missed Valak in my post . I understand that Valak and Hermanoli are brothers and both of them have one particular GTV TB . I have watched this clip yesterday and understand that Transfagarsan was very busy road, so I have been really lucky to drive on it with really small traffic . If I go to it sometimes in the future maybe have to discuss this with romanian guys, when should I go, to have as small traffic as possible . Look like Transalpina is also great road (and according to this guy in the video was even greater), but looking from pictures and videos I think that Transfagarasan is better for driving. And one point of this guy is that Transfagarasan was very busy road and I have not experience this (lucky me ). Maybe have to visit and drive at Transalpina and then to make comparison .

39th International Alfisti meeting in Rijeka, Croatia (2015)
kunev replied to Paso's topic in Events
It was nice event with many cars as I see . Visiting this event is in my future plans as I have mentioned several times, but will see when I can make it. -
And here is my comment about the event . First of all, I'm satisfied, that the GTV made this long trip and come back without issues . Around 1500km, it was challenge for me also, especially with so noisy car, high temperatures and not working air con pfuu. This was really nice event and well organized! Many great looking and in shiny condition alfas (mine was not from them ). Nice and friendly people . And very good places selected for the event. I finally meet some guys, with which I only contact from forums until now - Alex, Nikola (charlee), Hermanoli . Alex and other guys, which organize this event have made really nice accessories specially for the event - T-shirt, brochure, sticker, paper bag . It is really noticeable that they made efforts . For me the most impressive thing about this event was going to Transfăgărășan. This road is just amazing ! I go for a drive to south part of the road after the tunnel at the top, when almost all alfas start to go down back to north part. So I drive alone and push the GTV . Wow what an experience is to drive on this road . There isn't trees and bushes around the road and have good visibility, so you can push the car without so much risk of suddenly appeared oncoming traffic (like on normal mountain roads). I reach one parking at the right of the road, stop for a little and then go back for more fun. Driving in the tunnel at the top was also big fun - second gear, full throttle and don't really see where you going (the tunnel is dark) . Most impressive and enjoyable automotive experience for me until now !!! The pictures are not really good, but they are made with old archaic phone (without touch screen, if you remember that the phone was like that in the past ). Thanks to Alex and other guys responsible for organization and all other small things around it .

Very nice update ! Tell us more about the seats .

One recent issue with the car, which have to be solved in next week, just before Squadra916 drive II. The radiator start to leak from bottom back side of left end tank. The mechanic sad, that this was common place for crack (generally for radiators, not specifically for GTV). I make a order of Nissens radiator from mister-auto site for parts (and something else, which mention soon), but after several days they send me a message that this product was not in stock and can not be delivered (although it is showed as "in stock"), so the order was canceled by them and money will be refund to me (still wait to see them in my account). Nissens radiator is much more expensive in Bulgaria, compared to price in mister-auto site (and probably from their site and bulgarian distibutors these radiators are made in china, Nissens have production there). So I bought one cheaper asian made radiator. Also radiator for our car turned out to be more specific and expensive than similar age cars. Hope to fit fine and to not have problem with it. And with replacing 20 years old original (I guess) radiator with new one, maybe some cooling benefit.
-
Few days left and have recent problem for solving in next days . Alex, only romanian leu can be used everywhere in Romania, right? I have to get some.
-
I understand when someone say "I want this." . I wish you good luck with this finding, but if you decide to go for custom modification of dampers for other model (if you know right guy for such job) also can consider H&R monotube coilovers. Their dampers are monotube (as Bilstein B6 and B8) made by Bilstein to H&R spec as far as I have read. And I remember about one advert for Bilstein B6 Sport for TB in our forum -> link. Yes, an old advert and probably sold a long time ago. He is from your country. Modification of TB dampers probably will be the easiest.
-
Good luck with organization . Join the event and waiting for news . I plan to go with the GTV and some things have to be done. Some months ago I was planing to be with finished tuned GTV, but start of my project will be after the event.
-
About tuning shops on the net that list many items in their sites/catalog. Some time ago I was looking for Bilstein B6 Sport for my TB and many sites list them, but none of them have them or can have them. Some of them at first ask answer that they should have them and can be order and after some research say that they are no more available. So think that most of this sites have big catalogs and nothing in stock. But it is worth checking. Try some big dealers of Bilstein, they may have some old items in stock.

V6 TI DTM great race car ! But on this car is based 155 GTA . On car was changed engine oil with Motul Sport 5w-50 ester oil and coolant Bardahl Type C (blue) both as on my GTV TB. And also fuel filter. Idle control valve (ICV) was cleaned. Will try to connect car's ECU with one specific software for Magneti Marelli 16V ECUs - Startrek -> http://www.nailed-barnacle.co.uk/coupe/startrek/startrek.html . .
-
Some update after start of the new season . I decided to try Motul Sport 5w-50 oil. I wanted to try ester oil with lower cold index than Motul 300V Competition 15w-50 and end up with this. Also engine coolant was changed with Bardahl type C (blue, showed on one of the previous pages) and timing belt replaced (5 and a half year from previous time and less than 15000 km ). And two new tires - Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2. I decided to stay with the current size of 215/45-R17 and not go for 225/45-R17. Still waiting for the start of performance upgrade ... .

Welcome here . Yet another 916 fan from "exotic place" (for such car) . As far as I have read it is not uncommon a low miles car from Japan. I'm a fan of Delta Integrale and there is peoples/companies which import low miles, rust free examples. Finding parts there is difficult for sure . 1-2 sites come to my mind, which offer many parts (off course there is many other companies): http://ricambi.alfisti.net/ http://www.mister-auto.com/ (they have "local sites" at many european countries - look flags at the bottom) First maybe can deliver there, but second one I'm pretty sure no. If you have a option for delivery with some "intermediate" transport company this will expand your possibilities .
-
The new "season" for this car is not started yet, but I have bought something for it just in case I have a problem with this part in the future and also the price was good in my opinion. Brand new, unused torsen rear differential: As far as I know and have read, the rear differential is strong and don't break. The same torsen differential is used in Delta Integrale 16V,Evo 1and Evo 2. Hope to not need to use it .
